The party season is in full swing and as Christmas approaches there are an abundance of celebrations to get you into the festive mood.
Christmas calls for creative, fun and glamorous make up looks. If you’re the type of girl who sticks to the same old tinted moituriser and eyeliner all year round then it’s time to shake off your makeup fears and dive head first into the world of glamour.
Christmas is the perfect time of year to experiment with your look. After all, if you want that kiss under the mistletoe then you’ll need to stand out!
For me, the party season is all about long-lasting bases, glitter accents and bold lips. I’m not suggesting full on drag, but adding some excess to your makeup could be so much fun.
I’ve put together a list of makeup items that I reach for when I’m in the mood for dressing up. If you’re looking for some inspiration for your next Christmas party then look no further. *WARNING – blog post contains extreme use of sparkle. Sunglasses are advised.
The Perfect Base
If you’re looking to party all night then keeping your foundation and concealer in place is essential. The Nars Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder (£26.50) is perfect for prolonging makeup wear. The silky powder is designed with Photochromic technology; which diffuses light. Fine lines and open pores are masked without adding an additional colour to your skin. The formula is weightless and feels very soft to the touch. I add a slight dusting of this to my T-zone to reduce shine and under my eyes to avoid my concealer from creasing.

The Perfect Contour
Even those with near-perfect bone structure need a little contouring in their life. Contouring can transform anyone into a chiseled goddess and let’s be honest, mince pies do nothing for your cheekbones.
The Morphe Pressed Powder Palette (£15.00) is a go-to when looking to sculpt your face. Containing 6 highly pigmented and buttery-textured powders, there’s a shade to suit most skin tones. The darkest shades are cool toned; which is perfect for avoiding that ‘orange’ look and the highlighting shades are great for adding extra dimension to your face. I would definitely go in with a light hand here as the powders are so pigmented that it’s easy to go overboard.

The Perfect Cheek
I don’t gush often, but when I do, it’s about something so revolutionary that I just have to share it. That’s how strongly I feel about Milani blushes. I’ve yet to come across a Milani blush; which has failed to amaze me. Each one as pigmented as the last and the array of colours are just as beautiful on the skin as they are to look at.
The Milani Baked Blush in Rose D’oro (approx £4.50) is perfect for adding a flush of colour to your cheeks without over-powering your look. It’s a very universal in colour so it will suit most makeup looks and the price speaks for itself. The blush does contain a very subtle hint of glitter, however, it’s not very noticeable when on the cheeks.

The Perfect Highlight
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a little glow. This highlighting power couple from Gerard Cosmetics is by far my favourite way to add some sparkle to my look. The BB Plus Illumination Facial Cream (£22.50) is a dream for your skin. It adds hydration, anti-ageing benefits and vibrancy to your skin; whilst giving you an ethereal glow. Add a small amount to the tops of your cheekbones or add it to your foundation for an all-over dewy finish. I use the Star Powder in Marilyn (£22.50) on top of the Illumination Facial Cream to add extra sparkle to my cheekbones. The Star Powder is beautifully packaged and incredibly pigmented. Used together with an initial layer of the cream helps you achieve optimal luminosity.
You can find both products here.
The Perfect Brows and Lashes
No look is complete without a beautiful set of falsies and perfectly defined eyebrows. Both elements frame your face and make your overall look more polished. It’s almost become second nature for me to add a pair of lashes and fill in my brows before a night out. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (£15.50) is a cult classic and it’s not hard to see why. Containing a spoolie on one end and an ultra-fine brow pencil on the other, this tool is everything you will need for perfectly arched brows. I use the colour Ebony, but there is literally a shade available for everyone.
The Ardell Demi Wispie Lashes (£5.49) are a fool-proof pair of false lashes. Not too long and not too natural, they add the perfect balance of glamour and elegance to any look. They are perfect for anyone who is uncomfortable with wearing false lashes or finds the application slightly tricky. Wear with eyeliner for a defined look or without for a slightly smokey-eyed effect.

The Perfect Eye Base
Longevity for your eyeshadow is vital. I never go without a primer when applying eyeshadow. The Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Original (£17.00) is my favourite way to make eyeshadow stick. I have very oily eyelids and eyeshadow doesn’t stand a chance without the use of this primer. My eyeshadow stays in tact all night and the forumla is very comfortable to wear on the lids.

The Perfect Glittery Eyeshadow
The Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finsh Eyeshadow in Titanium (£33.50) is literally Christmas in a container. The cream-to-powder formula adds a build-able flush of sparkle to your lids. The set comes complete with a primer, dropper and metal mixing tray. Use a small amount of the primer with a pinch of the shadow to create a beautiful concoction of intense eyeshadow; which is perfect for adding some drama to your peepers. The shadow is long lasting and suitably festive.

The Perfect Lip
Whatever makeup look you go for, don’t forget to add some colour to your lips. Choosing the right lip colour can be tricky. It can either make or break your overall look.
Balance out a natural eye look by choosing a dark, sultry lip. My choice of colour lately has been L’Oreal Color Riche Lipstick Oud Obsession 703 (£6.99). Rather than a plum or burgundy, this rich chocolaty, almost treacle coloured brown shade is a modern take on the dark lip. The colour is absolute perfection and the formula is creamy on the lips.
If you rather a traditional look for Christmas then you can’t go wrong with a red lip and winged eyeliner. For that, I always turn to my original OG MAC’s Russian Red. Slightly more hydrating than the ever popular Ruby Woo, this shade is the perfect blue-toned, matte finish lipstick. If you have a similar skin tone to mine then Russian Red will be great for adding a little glamour to your look.
If you find the idea of a bold lip slightly daunting then perhaps a muted, pink lip is the choice for you. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipstick in So Hap Pink to the perfect Kylie Jenner lip colour in a liquid lipstick form. The colour goes with almost any makeup look and allows you to have a pop of colour on the lips without committing to a bold lipstick.
